Seattle Baroque Soloists

For All Our Sisters

Alexander Weimann, Music Director
Aaron Grad, Composer & Artistic Consultant
Danielle Sampson, vocal soloist
Claudia Castro Luna, narrator

Alexander Weimann and the Seattle Baroque Soloists present a program designed to help us listen more compassionately to women’s stories, from mythological times to today. Local composer Aaron Grad (the creator of the electric theorbo concerto Strange Seasons) returns with a contemporary cantata that gives new voice to the Sirens, and Soprano Danielle Sampson also performs two Baroque works based on tragic Greek myths: the haunting Pan et Syrinx by Montéclair, and the fiery Semelé by Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre. Debussy’s Syrinx and a sonata by Rebel contribute instrumental portraits of these complex figures. To reframe the ancient themes for our modern age, Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna reads original poems that help awaken new empathy for all our sisters.
